Privacy policy

FINA collects nothing about you. This page still says exactly what happens when you open it and when you work with FINA.

The short version

1. Who is responsible

The controller for the processing of personal data under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:

Alexander Geurkov
Email: info@fina-app.de

There is no data protection officer; a project of this size is not required to appoint one.

2. Where this site is hosted

The FINA pages are hosted on GitHub Pages, a service of GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA — a Microsoft company. GitHub is the largest provider of its kind worldwide: more than 180 million developers keep their projects there, and much of the software you use every day is built on it.

Opening a page inevitably sends some details to that server: the IP address of your internet connection, the time, the file requested and the usual details about your browser. Without them the page could not reach you at all, and it would be the same with any other host. GitHub processes these details on its own responsibility and may log them briefly for operation and security. We never get to see any of it and keep no access logs of our own.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in delivering the site securely and reliably (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

The provider is based in the USA, so data may be transferred there. What goes there, though, is only the technical details of the page request — your household book never sits on that server (section 6). Microsoft is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; for transfers to certified companies the European Commission has found an adequate level of protection. What GitHub does in detail is set out in the GitHub privacy statement.

3. No cookies, no analytics

These pages set no cookies. There is no traffic measurement, no analytics tool, no advertising, no social media buttons and nothing that would be fetched from someone else’s server.

That is also why no banner asks you for permission here: there is nothing consent would be needed for.

4. The fonts come with the site

The three typefaces FINA is set in are delivered with the site itself. They are not fetched from Google or any other outside provider — so your IP address goes to no one along the way.

5. Your language choice stays in your browser

When you switch between EN and DE at the top, your browser remembers the choice — on your device, so the next page comes up in your language. This is not a cookie: the choice is never sent to a server and never leaves your computer. You can delete it like any other site data in your browser settings.

6. Your household book stays with you

FINA does all its work inside your browser. You open your book from your own computer, and it is saved straight back there. It is never uploaded and sits on no server of ours.

We have no access to it and no idea whether you keep a book at all, what is in it or how much money it mentions. There is no user account, no sign-up and no connection to a bank.

7. The survey inside the program

While we pilot, FINA asks what you think — in a window inside the program, not on someone else’s page. Two things happen over the network:

The answers are received on our behalf by Formbricks GmbH, Kuhnkestr. 6, 24118 Kiel, Germany, and stored on servers in Frankfurt am Main. A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is in place with them.

The legal basis for sending is your consent, given with that click (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR); you do not have to answer, the window can be closed and the button can be ignored. The legal basis for merely checking is our legitimate interest in being able to gather any feedback at all during the pilot (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The answers are deleted once the pilot has been evaluated.

So that you are not asked twice, FINA notes in your own file that you have answered. That note stays with you; what you answered is not in it.

8. The Mac and Windows apps

The desktop apps are in the works. They too do all their work on your own computer, and your book file stays there as well. They open one connection of their own: at most once per session they ask GitHub whether a newer version exists. GitHub sees the IP address in doing so — nothing else goes out, and the check can be switched off in the settings. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in users learning about improvements and fixed bugs (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

10. Your rights

You have the rights granted by the GDPR: access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection to processing based on a legitimate interest (Art. 21). Any consent you have given can be withdrawn at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7(3)). You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77).

In practice this is quickly told: we store nothing about you that could be handed over or deleted — apart from the answers to a survey, and those carry no identifier that could lead back to a person. Do ask anyway if you want to know something: info@fina-app.de.

11. What does not happen here

No profiling, no automated decision-making, no selling of data and no passing it on to third parties for advertising. Beyond the places named above, nothing is passed on to anyone.

12. Status of this policy

This policy applies from 23 August 2026. As soon as FINA does anything new that sends data out — a payment, say, or storage on the net — it will be described here before it starts.

The German version is the authoritative one; the English is a translation for convenience.
